Where we built client links in 2020

In 2020, we, as an outreach team, were forced to pivot practically overnight as a result of the pandemic.

We had to take a step back and reassess our client strategies for two reasons: one, journalists and other contacts would be under an immense amount of newfound pressure. Two, consumer attitudes, habits, and needs had changed.

However, we’re used to adapting our outreach to capitalise on trends, and we took the opportunity to try out some new tactics. As a result, Glass Digital clients waved goodbye to 2020 with lots more high-quality links and exposure under their belts.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the places we earned press coverage last year. For more examples, check out our links vault.

National and regional news publications

National and regional newspapers are top-tier sites that almost all businesses want to earn coverage on. They tend to have strong domain authority (DA)* scores, meaning links can provide serious SEO value, as well as huge and diverse readerships.

There are several ways that we secure client coverage on these online publications, from providing insights into breaking news stories to suggesting products for inclusion in gift guides.

Lifestyle magazines

Popular consumer magazines also have strong DA scores and large readerships. There’s the added benefit of being able to work with publications that are highly relevant to the client’s industry, too.

In 2020, we secured links and exposure for clients on these sites via editorial, competitions, product reviews, and more.

Business publications

Exposure on business publications allows B2B companies to connect with high-quality prospects, while B2C brands can establish their authority as industry leaders. It also helps our clients to earn relevant, high-quality links that further diversify their backlink profiles.

We often work alongside our clients’ in-house marketers and our own content team to provide expert commentary, interviews, and thought leadership pieces to these kinds of publications.

Complementary businesses

One type of outreach prospect that’s often overlooked is the complementary business: any company that offers different but complementary products or services to your own and therefore shares a similar target audience.

These businesses’ sites often have high-quality blog sections where, with the right approach, you can secure links that deliver SEO value as well as sales. There are also other potential benefits to building relationships with these brands.
