New performance reporting launches for Google My Business

Google is rolling out new performance reports for Google My Business, which will give company owners and webmasters a better idea of how their listings are connecting with their audiences.

To access the new reports, here are the instructions that Google gives:

  1. Make sure you’re signed in with the account you used to sign up for Google My Business.
  2. To find your Business Profile, search on Google for your exact business name.
  3. If needed, select View profile to manage your Business Profile.
  4. Select Promote > Performance.
  5. At the top of the page, select a date range for your report and click Apply.

This should give you a lot of the information you’re looking for.

The new reports will provide you with a range of data, including how many calls and messages you’ve received in the last six months. You’ll also be able to see what people searched to find your Google My Business listing in Google Search or Maps.

The report is currently missing some metrics you would probably find helpful, though, such as how many website clicks you’ve received from your Google My Business listing and how many people asked for directions to your location. In the previous version, you could also see whether an internet user had found you through Google Search or Maps, but this information isn’t currently available through the new tool.

Google has added a guide to its My Business help centre, which goes into detail about how your Insights data has changed. This outlines which features are currently available and states that new metrics will be introduced over the coming months.

The main benefit of this new performance report is that you’ll now be given six months’ worth of data — this was previously only three months. It is missing some key data points that we would like to see added, but it does sound like many of these will become available very soon.

A lot of time and effort has been put into improving the Google My Business platform over the last year. A new messaging tool was launched in December and, as we highlighted in our June and September 2020 SEO bulletins, a range of new features have been added to help companies keep their customers informed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This is just another step the company are taking to make life much easier for the business owners who use their platforms.

If you’re interested in learning more about getting the most out of your listing, we have a guide on how to optimise your Google My Business profile as well as how to take full advantage of it during the coronavirus pandemic.
