Glass Digital competes in Business Fives charity football tournament

On 18 February 2020, seven members of the Glass Digital team competed in a Business Fives charity football tournament to raise money for Bibic, a charity that aims to maximise the potential of children and young people with conditions that affect the likes of their social, communication, sensory, motor, and learning abilities.

The cause is one that we are passionate about here at Glass Digital, as we want to encourage all children to have the best start in life, and recognise this can be difficult when they have certain conditions to contend with. We also admire how Bibic provide help and advice for teachers, parents, and carers who want to better understand the behaviours of their children or those they work with, and learn how to cater for their needs.

The Business Fives tournament took place at Soccerworld in Newcastle and saw 23 companies from the North East compete for a place in the national final, which will take place on 22 March. But it wasn’t just about companies showcasing their football skills: the businesses partaking were expected to raise money ahead of the tournament.

Across the Newcastle leg of the tournament, businesses were able to collectively raise over £4,000 for local charities of their choice, with Glass Digital raising £150 for Bibic. We reached this total by running a number of office competitions in the lead-up to the tournament. This included a “guess the Glass Digital member” competition where baby photos were brought in and staff paid £1 to guess who was in all of the pictures. We also hosted competitions such as guessing how many sweets were in the jar, and held a EURO 2020 sweepstake where a portion of the ticket sales went towards our donation to Bibic.

The Business Fives Newcastle event consisted of 79 matches, with Glass Digital winning their opening game 3-1, drawing their next one, and sadly losing to the opposition in their next run of games.

On entering the tournament, Bradley Hall, Head of PPC, said: “Members of the office often get together for friendly games of 5-a-side so, when the opportunity to play while raising money for charity came about, it was a no-brainer.

“Although we didn’t perform as strongly as we’d have hoped, it was a great day and gave us the opportunity to show off our Glass Digital kit designed by our client, Custom Planet!”

As well as the event offering a chance to raise money for our charity of choice, it was good for our team to network with other like-minded businesses.

Bradley adds: “The tournament was a great opportunity to meet other businesses, both that we already knew and those that we didn’t, and we even got to play against a client we do PPC for, so that was great fun.

“It was also nice to see how many companies were raising money for local causes — I believe one company raised £800 for their chosen charity, which is really impressive!

“Afterwards, there was free food, drinks, and goodie bags, which we enjoyed while we sat in the bar and looked at the latest scores. That gave us a good chance to have a laugh with the other teams.”

We are all thrilled with our total raised and would like to thank everybody who took part in our office competitions and, of course, to the participants who represented Glass Digital in the tournament.

We send our congratulations and the best of luck to Visualsoft, Partnerize, and Turner & Townsend who all qualified for the national final!
